Recently, our detective agency from Wuppertal experienced a rather curious case in Gevelsberg. At first, everything appeared to be a standard investigation; it concerned infidelity in a life partnership – actually a routine task for our private investigators. However, the location and circumstances of this case were quite extraordinary, which is why we would like to outline the events below.
The surveillance conducted by our private detectives from Wuppertal was to take place at the clubhouse of a motorcycle club to which Mr Kürten, our subject, belonged. There he regularly met with other members and experienced nights of heavy drinking. Despite his partner's insistence, he never wanted to bring her to these parties, claiming that they were purely male events. However, our client could no longer believe him, having heard from acquaintances that women did attend these gatherings. She suspected that Mr Kürten was entertaining another woman during his club meetings and therefore wanted our infidelity detectives to examine the matter.
Upon the arrival of the two deployed investigators (a single-person observation had been rejected for safety reasons in this environment), several vans and a moderate number of different motorcycles were parked in front of the clubhouse. The observation was initially to take place from outside, as the risk of being noticed as outsiders within the club was extremely high. Entering the building under a pre-prepared cover story was only to occur if no relevant evidence had been gathered by the early morning. However, this ultimately proved unnecessary.
At midnight, our detective team from Wuppertal witnessed a highly peculiar and also alarming scene: several middle-aged men left the clubhouse and gathered around a fire that had been lit shortly beforehand by a single individual. The unusual element: each of them wore a cloak with a club emblem on the back, referencing a famous biker song. The men sang together and drank while standing around the fire. Shortly afterwards, a small, intoxicated group departed, mounted their motorcycles, and rode off towards Hagen. Due to the cloaks, it took our two detectives from Wuppertal some time, even with night-vision equipment, to identify Mr Kürten. Eventually, they succeeded, and the observers were to keep him in sight for several hours, as he fortunately no longer entered the club and even chose a nearby green area for personal relief.
After about two hours, the previously departed group returned, bringing female companions with them. Although the women did not wear cloaks (presumably not official club members), they drank and celebrated vigorously. Mr Kürten greeted each one – two with hugs, three with kisses on the cheek, and one with a prolonged French kiss. Subsequently, the subject and his chosen companion were inseparable: they danced arm in arm, kissed, laughed loudly – their voices standing out even to the observers stationed some distance away – and finally went into a wooded area, where the lady first performed oral sex on Mr Kürten, followed by consensual intercourse. During this, the subject did not remove his cloak.
At the request of the client, our two business detectives from Wuppertal continued their surveillance until the early hours. Mr Kürten and his companion separated briefly after intercourse, but overall spent most of the night together – talking, cuddling, and snuggling.
The ritual with cloaks and fire, which initially raised our private investigators’ heart rates due to its resemblance to cults such as the dangerous Ku Klux Klan, was ultimately not as dramatic as it first appeared. No blood was involved, no one was coerced into improper acts, no violent orgies took place, nor were any state, social, or xenophobic slogans expressed (at least not as a coordinated ritual). Accordingly, this appears to have been a morally questionable but harmless club prank. It is still remarkable, however, what one can encounter in the biker scene (private investigations in this environment are by no means rare). In a previously unreported case in Berlin, involving a member of another nationally known motorcycle club, there were extensive counter-surveillances and even death threats against an investigator, causing him to leave his home with his wife and child for several days. Caution is always advised in this milieu.
To maintain discretion and protect the privacy of clients and subjects, all names and locations in this case report have been changed beyond recognition.
